Think To Make Lampshade LAMP Framework Free

BOSTON, MA -- July 1, 2005 -- Think Computer Corporation, a leading web-based software firm, today announced that it will give away its proprietary Lampshade LAMP framework to individual and academic users. Previously, Think charged $799 for non-commercial licenses. The company will still charge commercial end-users the same price of $999 for a domain license.

Like many other frameworks, Lampshade lets programmers create database software for the internet without having to re-invent the wheel for each and every project. What makes it unique is that it was designed specifically for business use. Its simple, no-nonsense approach means that developers don't have to worry about objects, getter functions, setter functions, namespaces, or any of the other traditional object-oriented details that are usually unnecessary for the needs of most web-based applications.

In addition, Lampshade is one of the most secure frameworks available. The commercial edition automatically encrypts credit card numbers before they are written to the database, to ensure that even the best hackers will not be able to do anything with information they might obtain. This functionality can be extended to other types of sensitive data, as well, such as Social Security numbers. Passwords are automatically hashed using the SHA-1 algorithm, providing even better protection from brute force attacks than MD5.

Lampshade, which powers many of Think's other software applications, will be available for download from Think's web site starting on July 7, 2005.
